HEALTH CARE – DIABETIC CARE - CONTROLLING DIABETES WITH YOGA ASANAS  PRANAYAMA AND MEDITATION

Now it is well accepted  and supported by scientific studies and researches also that Yoga, Meditation and  Pranayama  are good health care practices.  These practices help in not only controlling the ill-effects of  many health disorders but also In  treating serious  health problems.   Diabetes a metabolic disorder  and can trigger many  complications, such as Renal  problems, Heart  Attacks can also be controlled by the regular practices of Yoga.

We are all aware that Diabetes growth is rampant in many developing countries and the facts about Diabetes in the world and in India are being  put to light by  Health departments of Government and several health and other service organizations in their awareness campaigns. The alarming fact that over 50 million Indians are suffering from this disease, is making India the Diabetic capital of the world.  Physical exercise,   Walking daily is the best way to fight diabetes and to beat effectively. International  Diabetic Federation says that a daily walk of  10,000 steps, i.e., a daily walk of 30 minutes  a day reduces the risk of type 2 Diabetes by 35 to 40%.

Apart from this, it is a well known fact that Yoga benefits diabetics, especially type 2 Diabetes  that has become  a stress and lifestyle related disorder.

Yoga plays an important role in averting diseases, those are caused by Diabetes , like heart and Kidney ailments.  Experts say that Yoga can stimulate pancreas  into  producing Insulin needed to reduce the blood sugar levels, which has  been accepted scientifically in several research studies.  Yoga gurus and practitioners claim that the patients who were earlier dependent on Insulin shots to manage their diabetes, and after prolonged practice of Yoga not needed  insulin shots anymore and this statement is supported by the researches.

STRESS: Experts point out that the ability of Yoga  in managing stress helps in controlling diabetes.  Actually stress is the  prime cause due to which pancreas produce a hormone  known as  Glucagon, which increases the  blood sugar levels in the body.  While someone does Yoga asanas, the internal organs are stretched. Once the internal organs are stretched and  put under stress, they become active. The blood supply to organs increases, which has a positive impact on endocrine system.

CAUTION:  The caution is that Yoga should not be started without warm-up.  Practitioners should at least  walk for 30 minutes then do 10 minutes of Pranayama, 10 minutes of Dhyana and later Yoga. The duration can be increased  on becoming proficient.  Basic asanas like traditional  " Suryanamaskar "  can improve  blood circulation to various parts of body and insulin supply. Some asanas  are technical and need expert guidance and will be effective only if done with proper technique.  Blood pressure patients  with Diabetes should start yoga after experts advise only.

HOW YOGA HELPS TO MANAGE DIABETES: 1. Yoga asanas stimulate  pancreas to produce  more insulin needed to control diabetes.
2.Yoga helps  reduce stress, which reduces production of  hormone Glucagon,  which is known to increase blood sugar levels.

3.Yoga helps reducing weight, which in turn helps in managing Diabetes
4.Yoga asanas help in improving blood supply, thereby improving pancreas functioning.
5.Improvement in circulation impacts organs and endocrine glands.

POSITIVE RESULTS: Asanas like Dhanurasana , Bhujangasana, Pavan Muktasana are some of the best asanas recommended for Diabetes patients.  Essentially they have  a positive impact on pancreas. However  these asanas will  show results only if practised over a period of time, since  maintaining these asanas regularly for a longer periods will put the organs under stress and strain and they will be vitalised.

Many of us though know about importance of Yoga , Meditation and Physical exercises, we do not take them seriously, instead keep on taking the medicines for the  diseases like Diabetes, Blood Pressure, Breathing problems etc., . for prolonged periods,  in spite of side effects from many of the medicines.  Considering the advantages, we can opt for these natural  forms of curing  i.e.,Yoga and Meditation to combat Diabetes and also diabetic related diseases effectively  which are also cost effective.
