HEALTH CARE-HEART ATTACKS -PROVIDING FIRST AID AND IMMEDIATE ATTENTIVE CARE

HEALTH CARE-HEART ATTACKS -PROVIDING FIRST AID AND IMMEDIATE ATTENTIVE CARE

The World Health Organization defines Health as a state of Complete, Physical, Mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Therefore eating right, exercising and sleeping well are important in prevention of infections and diseases. However a good sense of self, a loving support network and the potential for continued personal growth is also important to our overall Well-being.

Several causes, such as Environmental, Genetic and Physiological conditions may lead for illness and infections, for which we take treatment, which may be Traditional, Modern Medication, Yoga & Meditation etc. Sometimes immediate treatment may be necessitated to avert seriousness or even to prevent from fatality in case of some ailments.

All of us know that life is not certain and anything can happen at any time. Hence, we must always be prepared to face the challenges we have to encounter in our life time. Any emergencies like a sudden heart attack or a major accident to us or in front of us may require immediate action.

We will not be having much time to think when it is a matter of life and death. We have left with no other option but to take action. If someone near and dear to us or any other person is having a sudden heart attack or met with an accident right in front of us, we don’t want to regret being helpless. If we are already having heart or other such health problems, it is a must to be prepared to cope up with such situations. But we may not be able to identify whether it’s a heart burn or indigestion or a heart failure. It is therefore necessary to know what would be heart attack, symptoms and causes for heart attacks and emergency first aid for heart attack. some first aid even before the patient is taken to Doctor, lest it may lead to a permanent damage or even to cardiac arrest.

CAUSES OF HEART ATTACKS:
Heart attack occurs when blood supply to vital organs gets disturbed, may be due to clot in the arteries the blood supply may affect. People of above 50 years of age and women having menopause are at greater risk of having a heart attacks.

Mainly heart attacks occur due to:
1.Deposition of calcium / cholesterol 2.Hereditary factors 3.Tobacco 4.Obesity 5.High blood pressure
6.Emotional stress

HEART ATTACK SYMPTOMS IN MEN:
1.Unbearable chest pain 2.Sweating 3.Increased or irregular heart rate 4.Short of Breath 5.Severe pain from shoulder to neck (mild or intense) 6.Anxiety 7.Nervousness  8.Cold 9.Heart burn
10.Nausea and vomiting.11.Feeling like indigestion

In some cases pain may be spreading to the shoulders, neck or arms or it may affect jaws or throat. Some others may not have chest discomfort but they may have pain from arms or throat. So, if there is any discomfort or throat pain or neck pain, we cannot neglect and immediately we have to rush to a physician and give first aid for chest pain.

Symptoms usually will be for more than 15 minutes and then may stop or decrease. The major symptoms for heart attacks will be excessive sweat, feeling of discomfort and short breath.

Heart attack is one of such ailment, which demands immediate attention and some first aid even before the patient is taken to Doctor, lest it may lead to a permanent damage or even to cardiac arrest.

FIRST AID AND IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED:
Heart attack, the very term itself causes panic and at that time immediate action is to be taken to take the patient to a Doctor at the earliest possible, since every moment at that time is precious and any small amount of delay may lead to fatality. Heart attack is one of the leading causes of death all over the world and medical observations reveal that many of these deaths take place because proper first aid or medical attention is not given between the time the person has attack and the time he reaches the hospital. It is due to this reason that it is important to everyone how and what to do, as soon as a person is suspected to have had a heart attack.

The person is not to be left alone and not to be tried to manage at home and also not be given anything orally. Even if the person feels better, he should be lifted for hospital to know about the problem and for required care, as we will not be able to know about the intensity of the problem at home.

2.Immediately an emergency helpline service call for ambulance shall have to be given. 1.The person should be kept in lying down position, clothing should be loosened and rushed to the hospital.

2.He shall be made to chew one full tablet of Aspirin and swallow. Further one Sorbitrate tablet shall also be given to keep under the tongue. If there is profuse sweating, i.e., drop in Blood pressure, it shall not be done. Glucose powder in spoonful dosages can be given on or under the tongue , but sweet drinks shall not be given.

3.If short of breath, then the patient shall partially be reclined and to make him cough intermittently. If the person is unconscious and unresponsive, CPR ( Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) should be performed.

4. In any case not depending on the first aid to benefit much, the patient should be shifted to reach the nearest facility, preferably which has ICU or advanced treatment facility for heart. Blanket consent should be given for treatment facilitation in crisis situation, as experts have to act, since it is a do or die situation in crisis. Consent to clot buster or blood thinner medication or direct Angiography or Angioplasty, whichever is needed, shall have to be given and not to fell prey for non-scientific modes of treatment.

The above actions are of very important nature and need to be given wide publicity amongst the public, to take immediate action in such situations. Though many of us may have knowledge of some or all measures as said above, the repetitive publicity will remind us our action at the time of the need without hesitation, which will certainly help in saving the life of one in danger..
